The current state of our food system and our food industry are the main leading causes of some of the biggest challenges that humanity and our Planet is facing in this moment in time: thinking about climate change, pollution, food waste, malnutrition and global human health.

Humanity is using too many resources in a useless and futile way and therefore causing an increased problem for our future and our planet. The solution for these problems are clearly still in our hands, but we have to start seriously working on them as there is no planet B

Sustainable, healthy and plant focused food production and consumption is essential for the world to meet its 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

The complexity of these challenges is immense, and not something that can be solved by any company or individual on its own, it needs a hand in hand working together and understanding between food producers, food industry, politicians and consumers with the focus on.rethinking of how our food system operates actually and how it should operate for a better future, a healthier environment a healthier population. and a healthier Planet

The younger generations: Gen Y and Gen Z are taking a keen interest in eating healthily and sustainable, but they need support from the Gen X and the Baby boomers to be able to tackle these challenges in more efficient ways , as these older generations of leaders in the food industry and politics are still much more the generation that is making the decisions in our food industry and our politics

An important step involving especially the younger generation in the changes we need to make towards a more sustainable and better food system is firstly to understand what these younger generations want, need and expect of their future

then it will be their future we should be looking out for and should be solving, their future that is endangered by the momentary behaviour and decision making of the global food industry, and politicians mainly from the older generations

The findings, surveyed over 2’000 18 to 24 year-olds across the UK, France, Germany, Poland and Spain clearly demonstrate a generation that is keenly interested, knowledgeable and engaged when it comes to their eating and food habits, and especially how this links to their wellbeing and mental health.

for example Gen-Zers prefer whole, organic and plant-based foods as some of their healthiest options, and are put off by processed foods, which 79% consider to be unsustainable and unhealthy.

So this is definitely a trend in the right direction towards a healthier society and a healthier planet, Our Focus therefore should be to convince the generations in control to understand why this approach is so important not only for the young but also for the older (in control) generation themselves.

I’m not accusing the older generations and neither food producers, food industry, politicians or our general education system, but its time for all of us to step up and to clarify, in a more understanding and explaining way, what the preferences of a healthier and more sustainable way of our food consumption can and will bring for our future for all generations and for our planet.

This is especially a call out to the big global players in our Food industry, for them to come up with a profitable way to make a more sustainable and healthy approach as successful as they did when founding their industry

Access to healthy food, affordability and Transparency are key to promoting more healthy and sustainable lifestyles

Every single person can support and help by just making small and minor changes in their lifestyles.

Look for example to food waste, the amount of food wasted not only in the food industry but also in private households is still extremely high, and then looking to the amount of global resources used to produce this food waste makes absolutely no sense at all. When do we finally realise what we are really doing to our resources, and how long will we still have access to all these resources for an even rapidly increasing growth of our world population, knowing that already now so many people are dying of starvation and not having access to healthy food.

Think about the amount of greenhouse gasses used to produce our food waste,

how can we explain this to the future generations , we are ruining not only our own future, but also the future of the generations to come

lets start being part of the solution and stop being a part of the problem

Climate change is happening already, looking only at all the natural catastrophes that happened in 2021, climate change is all around us, and it will increase even more fast, if we don't start making more impactful changes

Think about it, start today, we can still change this, and we need to change this, we should do it together with all generations on our planet for a better planet and a better future.
