Changing the world towards a more sustainable approach is increasing nowadays in almost all businesses around the world. As we all know, a businesses needs to be lucrative in one or the other way, otherwise the business will not survive in our economic environment.
My main question therefore is, which business really means it serious with its sustainable approach, and which business is just using sustainability as a marketing tool.
In the food industry there are many sustainable approaches doing their rounds, and its very difficult to evaluate which approach is really effective and which one is just a way to increase revenue.
I cannot tell you, who to believe, or who is telling the truth, or who is just using their sustainability approach as a marketing trend , but i just want to give you some suggestions how not only the Food Business but also you yourself can try to support the environment with an changing sustainable approach.
With the following easy strategies we can start today, tomorrow, or whenever ready
and we don't even have to glue ourselves to any street to raise awareness :) just do it and start now.
Embrace plant-based and plant-forward options: Encouraging the inclusion of more plant-based food options in your daly menus as this can significantly reduce the environmental impact of the food industry. By preferring plant-forward dishes and alternatives instead of animal-based ingredients, and i'm not saying you need to go full vegan or vegetarian, but with just reducing the animal protein take in, we can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, conserve water resources, increase bio diversity and mitigate deforestation and soil depredation...... all high impact negative influences of our modern animal agriculture.
Source locally and seasonally: Supporting local farmers and local businesses and sourcing seasonal produce does not only benefits the local economy but also reduces the carbon footprint of the entire food business. Locally sourced ingredients require less transportation, thereby minimising emissions from long-distance shipping. Additionally to this, utilising seasonal produce ensures produce quality through more freshness, more flavour, and much more nutritional value.
Reduce food waste: Food waste is a major issue within our food industry but also within our private households, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and resource depletion. Implementing strategies such as portion control, proper inventory management, and creative use of leftovers can significantly reduce food waste. Establishing partnerships with local food banks or organisations that redistribute surplus food can also be an effective way to minimise waste while helping those in need, as there are still millions of people in the world that don't have access to fresh food on a daily basis
Optimise energy and water usage: Implementing energy-efficient practices, such as using energy-saving equipment, LED lighting, using bikes instead of cars, and properly maintaining refrigeration systems, can lead to significant energy savings. Conserving water through efficient irrigation systems, water-saving appliances, and staff training on water usage can also make a substantial difference in reducing the industry's environmental impact.
Engage in sustainable packaging practices: Food businesses can transition to eco-friendly packaging options, such as compostable or biodegradable materials, and reduce single-use plastics by changing to more bulk offerings and by encouraging customers to bring their reusable containers or offering incentives, this being very easy measures to help reduce packaging waste.
Educate and raise awareness: Food businesses can play a crucial role in educating both their staff and customers about the benefits of sustainable practices. Promoting transparency in the sourcing of ingredients, sharing information about sustainable farming methods, and offering educational materials which therefore can empower individuals to make personal, individual and informed choices and support businesses committed to sustainability.
Collaborate and support local initiatives: Collaborating with other businesses, community organizations, and government agencies can create a collective impact. By participating in local sustainability initiatives, sharing best practices, and advocating for policies that promote sustainability, not only the food industry, but every single individual , can contribute to a systemic sustainable change.
Start now, act today ......

By implementing and following these strategies, and informing and creating awareness to as many as possible people on our globe, not only the food business industry, but every individual person can drive positive change and contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future, change individually.........
